December 2017 –
I had just sat down for my first meal of the day when my cell phone began vibrating with a flurry of texts. It was a friend who was a crew member for a shoot I'd submitted to a few days before but hadn't heard back from. Apparently, the production did want me and they had an uber en route. I needed to be downstairs in 10 minutes.
*PANIC*
Like many people in the entertainment business, I had a regimen that I go thru prior to any shoot, and other than taking a shower, which I'd done before the messages came, I wasn't going to be able to do any of it. (which later affected my participation in the shoot.)
15 minutes later my Uber was cruising the 101 northbound, headed to a mystery studio somewhere in the San Fernando Valley.
When I arrived, the location was packed full of people, most of whom had been there since early in the morning. They'd all bonded and gotten to know each other and I was unable to join them as I was rushed into hair and makeup, and then had to scurry upstairs to wardrobe. I felt out of place, no matter how much I tried to interact with ppl as they came through the dressing room. Plus I had other things I was worried about…

Now, I don't talk about this much, but for the last few years, I've had what I guess is a health/medical issue. Menstruation is something all women experience, but as you get older, your hormones and body chemistry change, and mine has gone sideways and around the corner, making me bleed excessively. To the point where tampons are useless and overnight pads only barely handle the volume of blood my uterus has seen fit to put out(and where is all this coming from???). On top of that, there are extraordinarily large blood clots. It's made my life rather difficult – holding down a job outside of my house, going out with friends or even just a quick trip to the store can turn into an embarrassing situation – rendering me homebound most of the time and fighting a deep depression. So when I mentioned above that I need to prep for a shoot, it involves a lot of dealing with the potential for a bleed thru and mental preparation for working with(and thru)my depression.
And unfortunately, a bleed thru happened that day. I was horrified because it happened not once, but twice while I was there. I already felt like the odd person out that day because I'd missed the first half of the days shoot, the bleed-thrus sent me into a spiral. The first was as I walked up to wardrobe and I took care of it immediately. The second time happened while we were doing the group shots in front of the camera. The production had to make lighting and camera adjustments just after I had the second bleed, so I was able to go to the restroom and clean up, but I was in tears and wanted to fall into a hole. It was only thru the urging of the makeup artist I knew that I was able to find the courage to go back out to the set.
When I meandered back in, I hung back and watched as everyone did their single shots and was moved by the support they were giving each other. Then I began crying for a different reason – I hadn't ever been in the presence of a large group of women where all of them truly cheer each other on. Usually, someone(or a group of someones) is being catty, but that was not the case here… And when I finally dragged my ass in front of the camera(making sure to face forward the whole time), this incredible group began cheering for me, too! I was so surprised that they willingly and effortlessly gave their support to me, even tho I wasn't originally part of the group.
It's a moment that completely shifted my mood and my soul. The rest of the shoot day was finished off in a warm and chatty atmosphere. And even when the shoot wrapped and I was changing into my street clothes, the ass of my leggings completely busted out! I didn't get upset, though. I laughed. What did I care about some silly leggings, I just spent a life-altering afternoon in the presence of a bunch of absolutely phenomenal women!!

On March 17th, 2018, Pop/R&B Songstress Jessie J released a music video for her anthemic song 'Queen', a tune meant to empower those who may not feel at peace with themselves due to societal expectations and other negative influences.
To further highlight the empowering theme of the song, Jessie personally selected a diverse group of women to be in of the music video, ensuring that there was a positive representation to those women who rarely see anyone similar to themselves in mainstream media. One of those chosen was me, Angelina Duplisea, and I couldn't be happier or more proud of the love and diversity that is demonstrated in this video.
In the first week of its release, it's been viewed over 2 million times.

Fine art nude modeling seems to be my 'niche'. My size and shape lends itself well to abstract shoots, and I'm especially good in body positive type presentations because I'm truly comfortable in the nude regardless of the number of people in the studio(Well, as long as the temperature is good and there isn't a pervert nearby)
However, on occasion, I want to do something that is more editorial. Or something that is old school glamorous. A full-out, big hair, fierce eyebrows, all the makeup I AM FUCKING BEAUTIFUL, RECOGNIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shoot.
Mainstream media has nearly no representation of someone my shape and size. There are a few influencers out there that are size 22+, and bless them for putting themselves out there, because if it wasn't for one of them, I would not have met Sarah of Dynamite Dames Photography.
Based in Fort Worth, Texas, I was able to meet up with Sarah in September of 2017. I was in the Dallas area to visit one of my best friends, so it was no problem to jump into an uber and zip over to Fort Worth, and I was sincerely glad I did. Sarah is not only an amazing person, but her skill in shooting women of size is absolutely top notch.
This shoot was more of a fun/hangout session, with me doing my own hair and makeup and Sarah shooting whatever creative thing we came up with. The above shot is right out of the camera with only a black and white filter, and its one of my absolute favorites from that meeting. If I was in the same city(or nearby) as Sarah, I'd be paying her and her HMUA/Shoot Partner/Bad ass model Charlie a weekly salary to style and shoot me all the time! If I haven't mentioned it before, I'll say it here and forever after – Charlie and Sarah are a powerhouse duo of uber-talented goodness.
But since I live in L.A. and Dynamite Dames is in Fort Worth, my being able to see Sarah and Charlie is contingent on one of us traveling. Dynamite Dames have done tours to certain cities and in April they usually go to Vegas for Viva Las Vegas. This year was no exception, and since I was already going to be in Vegas for my 45th birthday, I was going to make a point of shooting with them.
I was especially excited because Charlie is BEYOND talented at hair and makeup and I knew the big hair I had been dreaming of was a style she could do with no problem. And she absolutely knocked it out of the park! I nearly cried I was so happy with my hair and makeup and the finished photos from the Vegas shoot were everything I had hoped they would be –
I really can't thank Sarah and Charlie enough.
These two photos are my top favorites from the shoot. Along with others I've shared on Instagram and Facebook, I edited the photos myself and kept it to skin clean up and color adjustment. It was my intention to pose naturally, without an effort to make my body look smaller and to not use any editing programs to achieve a 'flattering' silhouette.
Far too many of us(of all sizes) are concerned with making ourselves smaller, not just in size, but in the space we take up in the world. 'Don't be loud, don't be disagreeable, don't be fat, don't be anything but what people tell you is ok. You gotta fit in…'. I'm here to tell you that it's bullshit.
When you're comfortable with yourself, almost all of your photos will be flattering. They'll be wonderful snapshots of good times with great people and you won't be concerned with trying to hide your double chin, define your waist or minimize your stomach. No one who really matters cares about your wrinkles, your receding hairline or your acne(which honestly the acne thing is something I'm working on myself!). You'll be happy in the moment – The casual get together with your family and friends, the exhilarating late night adventure with your bestie or the peaceful, late Sunday afternoon you spend with the love of your life. Those moments are things of beauty from any angle and don't require you to be anything more than you are.
If you ever get in the mindset that you can't look and feel beautiful because you're not posing correctly or you're not thin or pretty enough, I hope these fupa happy, cellulite flaunting, double-chin-it-to-win-it pix of a 45-year-old woman help you be inspired to feel otherwise.

You wouldn't know it by my posts here, but if you've followed me on my social media accounts elsewhere, you'd see that I have been working.
And while I'd love to share what I do when I do it, but I'm a little superstitious and won't publicize a project until its actually out, plus the projects usually have a clause forbidding anyone involved from leaking ANY information.
What I can share – I did a pilot for a reality show, but it didn't get picked up, unfortunately. Worked with Jared Leto again, which is always fun, as you NEVER know what to expect with him. Worked with another high profile singer on a music video that should be coming out soon-ish. Did background work in the Tom Ford movie (THE Tom Ford!) Nocturnal Animals and met Tom himself. He is very kind and charming and a meticulous director. If you haven't seen Nocturnal Animals or his previous film, A Single Man, please check them out. They're both very visually striking, not unlike the clothing he designs.
But mostly I've been doing art modeling, the majority of which has been with a photographer by the name of Julia SH. Our first session together was in 2012 and the subsequent product of it was NOT one of my favorites, but a friend of mine turned my whole world around by reminding me it wasn't MY vision, it was the artists work, so their choice, their vision, was the most important part of that collaboration. Granted, it's important for me to be comfortable with what the photo shoot entails, so I've been a bit more thorough on research and definitely more vocal about comfort levels. And with that Julia and I have done some pretty cool stuff, and I even brought along my friends for an editorial in Glassbook.
I'm going to try and be a bit more active here on this blog, however, it might not always be entertainment related. Like I mentioned, its a bit difficult to share when I'm not allowed to. Maybe a post a week? 🙂

It's been a minute(a lot of minutes! Sorry!) since I updated here. Pilots and auditions and callbacks 'OH MY!'
And still, nothing I can share.
Oh wait, I was involved in a shoot for a music video. This one was a lot of fun because I got to work with my friend Maxi and a whole lot of cute boys(including the director) for a band called Fire in the Hamptons and their INCREDIBLY catchy song 'Chosen Ones'. I will definitely post it when it is released.
I've had a few commercial auditions, which is a new thing for me since I've been mostly music videos/movies/tv. I mean, why not, right? Apparently there is a technique to it that I have yet to master but getting callbacks for those is telling me I'm not to far off naturally. I need to work on actual characters and costumes to have for future opportunities…so maaaaaaybe one day you'll get to see me interrupting your favorite tv show 😀
In the meantime, I'll try to do better with updating….maybe.
I know I said I'd post something on Monday, but this week popped into WHOA busy, which is an incredibly good thing.
It's pilot season here in Hollywood, and I'm submitting and auditioning for anything I can get my chubby paws on. I can't say much on any of these just yet, but I'm so excited to be getting callbacks! Weirdly, I've also started getting interviews for real jobs(office work) so there's sort of a, well, weird crossroads thing going on – extremely well paying office job with a shitton of good benefits OR financial insecurity doing what I love.
I will be 100% honest in this – working in the entertainment industry is NO guarantee of money. Some people support themselves with office jobs, some with jobs within the industry(which is really awesome, contacts wise) and some find other ways of making money like selling clothes or art or what have you, but I can pretty much guarantee that most of the well known plus size women(maybe a handful are, but I mean, they're REALLY well known and it took them a long time to get to that point) are not supporting themselves by modeling/acting alone.
And that is something you need to realize when you make the choice to go into this industry, it is not for the thin skinned or the weak willed.
You will struggle.
I'd say I'm broke, ehhhh, 75% of the time. Sometimes I get a great gig and have some extra spending money but most of the time I struggle to pay my bills. Not that I'm complaining A LOT, (I'd love to have more money. Financial security is high up on my bucket list) I've been lucky in the paid projects I've chosen to be in…oh and thank goodness for AUDIENCE work. Gawd, if clapping in the audience of a gameshow or talk show hasn't saved my ass more than a few times.
Oh and a few odd jobs, the worst being a bathroom attendant during a St. Patrick's beer bust. 😦 Not the worst thing ever, but it kinda was. I super hate being around vomit…
But yeah, there is way less glamour involved in this business than you imagine, and even less money.
Not that that is the part you are here for, but like I said, I am trying to be as forthcoming as I can about what really goes on behind the scenes.
