- For making tawa pizza at home, you would require a pizza base. Depending upon your personal preference you can buy readymade whole wheat pizza base, grain pizza base or regular pizza base from your local bakery or grocery store. If you wish to make a pizza base from scratch at home then refer this recipe .
- We will be smearing the pizza base with a delicious pizza sauce. Even that is available in the market in packaged form but, if you want to make homemade pizza sauce then check out this recipe.
- For this recipe of vegetable pizza, we are using onions and capsicum as topping but vary the toppings according to your choice by adding other veggies like mushrooms, spinach, olives, jalapenos, corn etc.
- To make the veggie pizza wholesome, you can also put cubes of paneer or tofu.
- For the Pizza Sauce, clean, wash and remove the eyes of the tomatoes. You do not want them in your pizza sauce
- Make a criss-cross on the base of each tomato using a sharp knife. Make sure you use tomatoes that are firm and red in colour.
- Meanwhile, keep the water for boiling in a deep pan.
- Place the tomatoes in boiling water for 2 to 3 minutes or till the skin begins to peel.
- Drain the tomatoes using a strainer.
- Cool slightly and peel, they will peel easily because of the criss cross that was made at the base of the tomatoes.
- Cut them into 2 and deseed them using a sharp knife. Removing the seeds not only ensures a smooth puree, but also ensures that the sourness of the tomatoes reduces.
- Roughly chop them.
- Transfer to a blender.
- Blend in a mixer till smooth. Use a big mixer jar and not the small one as when you will blend it will overflow. Keep aside.
- In a broad non-stick pan, heat the olive oil. Olive oil is used in all Italian recipes as it taste really great. Add the garlic. - Sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
- Add the onions.
- Sauté on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add the prepared tomato pulp.
- Add the oregano. If you wish you can also add mixed herbs.
- Add the chilli flakes.
- Add the tomato ketchup. This gives a little colour and sweetness to the sauce.
- Add the chilli powder and salt. Chilli powder is added to give more colour and spiceness.
- Mix the Pizza Sauce (Quick Pizza Sauce) well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes stir it in between. Make sure you are careful of the spluttering that happens of the tomatoes.
- Add the sugar to the pizza sauce and mix well.
- Cook the pizza sauce on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Store the Pizza Sauce (Quick Pizza Sauce) in an air- tight container and use as required. Stays fresh in the fridge for 4 days and freezer for atleast 3 months
- For the homemade pizza dough recipe, in a small bowl take dry yeast.
- Add sugar.
- Add 2 tbsp of lukewarm water. Dip your finger in water to check if it's lukewarm or no before adding. Water that's too hot can damage or kill the yeast.
- Mix well.
- Cover with a lid and keep aside for 5 minutes. The rising time will vary as per the climatic conditions and the quality of yeast

- In a deep bowl, take plain flour.

- Pour a little olive oil.

- Using enough water combine all the ingredients.
- Knead into a soft, smooth dough. Shape the dough into a proper round using both your hands while tucking the edges at the bottom. If you have a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment, then make use of it to prepare the pizza dough.
- Cover the dough with a wet muslin cloth and keep aside for 1 hour in a warm place or till the dough is double in size. If you don't plan to use the dough for a day, place it in the fridge straight away; take it out 3-4 hrs before using and then continue the rest of the procedure.
- After an hour, the dough will rise and resemble this.
- Press the dough lightly to remove the air.
- Pour a little olive oil on the dough and also, grease your palms with it.
- Knead the dough again to form a smooth pizza dough.
- Divide the dough into 3 equal portions.
- To make pizza base at home, roll a portion into a 175 mm. (7") diameter circle with the help of plain flour. While rolling the portion of the dough, keep the other 2 portions covered with the wet muslin cloth so that they do not dry up. If you want to get air pockets and a crisp dough, then don't use a rolling pin and stretch the dough using your hands. This will prevent the popping of air bubbles.
- Prick the circle evenly using a fork so that it doesn't puff up.
- Similarly, roll and prick out the remaining 2 circles and place all the 3 pizza base on a baking tray.
- Bake them in a preheated oven at 180°c (360°f) for 5 minutes. The time required will vary from oven to oven so, do keep an eye to prevent the pizza base from burning.
- Remove them and use as required.

- Place the prepared pizza on the pan and cover and cook it for 5-7 mins or until the cheese melts. Make sure you dont leave it unattended or else it will burn.
